I refer to my post on the 10th of May – Two dumb things I did today. I take back everything I said about the bank’s ATM. Instead, I’m doing a full turnover. It’s such a smart system!
All right, since I got my money back, I can tell the story here. I was ashamed and quite embarrassed to admit to my mistake when I first blog about it on the 10th of May.
On that day, I was listening to my iPod. When I’m engrossed with music, I totally tune out from the world. I see, but I don’t observe. I hear, but I don’t listen. I move, but unconsciously. To summarize, I was a walking zombie.
I was in that state of hyper-trance when I withdrew $50 from the ATM. I clicked all the right buttons, took back my bank card, and left.
I left without taking that $50 note. I only noticed it when I was in the bus towards my workplace, and no matter how much I grumbled, rant and regretted, I knew I could not turn back to take my money. At that time, I considered it lost.
Then, today, I received a letter from the bank saying:
“With reference to the ATM withdrawal performed by you on 10/05/2011 at NUS YIH/L3, we are pleased to inform you that retracted cash of $50.00 has been credited to your account.”
Later, I found out through a friend that the machine has a smart system in place. After 10 seconds of the annoying alarm system, the machine would retract the money. So, contrary to what I initially thought, no one took the money after I left! The machine took it back.
Wah, I’m so happy today. I got to eat a nice Indian lunch, borrow my office’s laptop (it’s a black Lenovo, and I dislike black laptops but I’m grateful for the help), and got my $50 back. And, I discovered Glee’s ‘Pure Imagination’.
I’m really happy today. It calls for a celebration…
with my being extra productive in work. More readings on water issues coming up…
