Videos on the kooky English language, the lunatic female vampire, and… Van Gogh.

It’s fascinating to go to classes taught by lecturers who are literate in social media. They know that there are plenty of high-quality and diverse documentaries, open courses, and clips online. They are also humble enough to admit that these videos are much more effective in spreading knowledge compared to long-winded speeches, dull Powerpoint slides, or even worse, transparency films. More importantly, they are still curious and continue seeking for new educational methods to inspire us, the visually pampered generation of students.

Videos nurture long-term learning. Though it’s been months ago, Read the rest of this entry

Fame and Money, pooh. All that matters is self-pride.

Fame and Money, pooh. All that matters is self-pride.

Browsing through the music trends in YouTube, I feel a little dissatisfied that worthy artists I know are not getting the acknowledgement they deserve. Instead, they are succeeded by computer-generated pitches and rhythmic mindless music that is trending 20-200 million views. But, it also inspired me in some ways.

Someday, I want to tell people that it doesn’t matter how many people know your name or how much money you make. All that matters is you are happy and proud doing the things you do.

I sincerely hope that JYJ feels this way. Through TVXQ, they have reached the top of the top and inspired the K-music industry today. After breaking away, they had, and still have, problems fighting the huge music conglomerates in Japan and Korea. But, I hope that they would not give up in their goal to be artists, and not just mere idols.

I, too, hope that the people around me feels this way too. Not to be sucked down by ambitions for material success, and instead, remember to be themselves and be happy being people, and around people.

And, I hope the future me will remember this and feel this way too.

Grow Up Among Environment

Every week, I receive emails on the environment. Silly old me, I subscribed to many organisations and now, the emails are dispersed in my Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, and Facebook accounts. Often, I will just glance through their titles and move most of them to the bin unread. It makes me wonder. What happened to me? The me, who was so eloquent in my passion for this cause. What happened to her?

I used to be so passionate about the environment. In fact, I was blinded by it that it might have annoyed people. Once, my sister and I went from class-to-class in our high school and college to collect signatures for petitions to save the rainforest and stray animals. Read the rest of this entry

Song review: ‘Rainy Blue’ by Hideaki Tokunaga, JYJ, and Tohoshinki.

I hum this song a lot. It’s so beautiful. I can’t understand it unless I have the translated lyrics in front of me, but the emotions expressed by the strong vocals and sweet melody pulls you into it to feel lonely and sad. And yet, in the end, it has an optimistic feel to it. I like it a lot.

The original song was sung by Hideaki Tokunaga, and because the song has this power to capture your heart, it has since been covered by Jacky Cheung (in Chinese) and Tohoshinki/TVXQ, Hitomi Shimatani, and recently, JYJ.  Read the rest of this entry

An after-drama rambling on Princess’ Man [K-Drama]

An after-drama rambling on Princess’ Man [K-Drama]
Korea-Dae Jang Geum Theme Park

Yeah, so, I was a slouch today. I didn’t do a thing as I promise to do everything tomorrow. Instead, I watched Princess’ Man back-to-back and finished 24 one-hour-long episodes in about 2 days. Yup, like what my sister, Michelle, said, the ending was very Winter Sonata-ish. In fact, I would say that the ending was what you get if you mix Winter Sonata and Dae Jang Geum’s ending together.

This drama really keeps you on your toes on who is going to survive, up till the last ten minutes of the show. When I was watching the last episode, I kept asking myself “Yeesh, it’s the last episode and everything is still not resolved.” I prayed that it wasn’t going to be a rushed ending. But, during the last 8 minutes of the show, I just kept saying “Ehhhhh???” in a very good way, but still very surprising.  Read the rest of this entry
